Aquinnah is best known for its brilliantly colored cliffs that drop down into the ocean. Here one may see layers of sand, gravel and clay where the scenery constantly changes, albeit slowly. The glaciers of old have played their hand in magnificent beauty here.

The lighthouse on top of the cliffs guides boats past threatening rocky shoals off-shore just as has been done since 1799 when one of the first revolving lighthouses was erected. The grassy surroundings lead to the seaside where scattered homes lie nestled among the dunes.
